UI Extension Hosting Ag Outlook Seminar In Boise
Registration is now open for the 2024 Idaho Ag Outlook Seminar. This year’s event will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn Boise, starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday December 18th. Brett Wilder, UI Extension agricultural economist says this year’s Seminar will be very interesting for a variety of reasons. One, he noted, the oddity of the current ag economy. He noted they are forecasting a very narrow new all-time high in cash receipts for Idaho commodities in 2024 as well as a slight increase in net income. But he said that news is difficult to share, because as he stated, it feels wrong.
“When you go out and talk to producers, particularly in certain crops. And I think something that becomes difficult for me when you present this is understanding that, yeah, the total's up, but we had significant differences in who won and lost, depending on what commodity you produce.”
Wilder noted the seminar will include a variety of economic experts, the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation talking about the ag policy outlook for 2025, weather experts and much more. He noted the seminar is a great way to cut through data and information overload.
“And sit down, listen to some people that have done their research who really understand these industries, and give you an opportunity to actually ask questions back, about what's going on.”
