At their first meeting in Washington D.C. last week, President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May committed to a bilateral trade agreement between the two countries.

PM May said, “We are discussing how we can establish a trade negotiation agreement, take forward immediate high-level talks, lay the groundwork for UK/U.S. trade agreement.”

No deal can be reached however until Britain has officially withdrawn from the European Union which could take up to two years.

President Trump believes that Brexit will make a deal easier to negotiate.

“I think when it irons out, you’re going to be able to make free trade deals without having somebody watching you and what you’re doing.”

May said they will begin by identifying practical steps that can be made now to lay the foundation.
