Tuesday is National Ag Day, and the day will be extra special in Idaho.

“The governor has proclaimed the 18th as Idaho agriculture day," noted the Idaho State Department of Agriculture's Sydney Kennedy.  "And really, the event is all about giving opportunity to the public to learn more about Idaho agriculture and the significance it has in our state.”

Kennedy said the ISDA will have more than 15 different commodity groups represented Tuesday at the state capitol, showcasing the importance of farming in the state.  Kennedy added Tuesday’s event is also an opportunity to show those who have recently relocated to the state the value of farming.

“Our Ag communities are really what makes Idaho, Idaho and those people are really what makes up those rural communities, the farmers, the ranchers, they are the backbone behind Idaho and the strength in our state. So it's not only just the numbers, it's really the people that make up and what make Idaho, Idaho.”

Tuesday’s event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Agriculture contributes more than $10.8 billion to the Idaho economy.
