Last week’s USDA trade mission to Colombia may benefit the Northwest ag industry in the future.  The goal of the trade mission was to boost American agricultural exports and build upon the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement.  Overall Colombia ranks as the 7th-largest market for American agricultural exports, while the U.S. is the top export market for Colombia's Ag goods.  Alexis Taylor, Under Secretary of Agriculture for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs said healthy products show great promise in Colombia as do other potential American ag exports.

"But also our new diverse sources of protein; dairy, turkey, pork, fish, seafood products are also all on the trade mission being represented this week."

However, at this point, Taylor said there are few details as what Northwest farm exports might benefit the most with any increased trade to Colombia.
