Wednesday marks the 10th annual Taste Washington Day. And things will look different this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the Washington state Department of Agriculture says they will still use the day to highlight not only the great products grown in the state, but also the great relationships between the farming community and school districts.

The WSDA’s Chris Iberle says over 40 districts have signed up, meaning they will highlight locally grown food. He noted while 2020 is not a normal year, it’s still very easy to participate in your local Taste Washington events.

“Check to see if your district is participating and go pick up a school meal, or sign up to go get a school meal if your district is doing preorders for meals.  And that’s a great way to participate, just stay engaged with your school meal program and continue to support your school district and of courses support the farmers.”

Iberle noted they will not only highlight the great products produced in Washington, but also the resilience of the state’s Ag industry in the face of incredible challenges this year.

“And a big thanks to Washington farmers and growers that are continuing to harvest and supply food to our communities through the pandemic too.”
