Producers hear the word sustainability a lot, but what does it mean and how can it be applied to the individual farm?

Twin Falls County Idaho Farm Bureau President Elizabeth Kohtz said the definition is up to the individual farmer and rancher.

“I think that what is sustainable for one dairyman or one row crop farmer, isn’t necessarily sustainable for the one that’s next door to them. It just depends on their inputs and that load they’re carrying and a bunch of different things whether something can be sustainable for them.”

Kohtz spoke at the recent American Farm Bureau Federation convention which hosted a panel on sustainability.
