The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service concluded their Sunset Review last week and announced the renewal of 187 substances on the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances for organic growers.

According to WSU’s David Granatstein, the biggest controversy revolved around carrageenan which is a food processing thickener made from algae which did not make the list.

Granatstein noted that other than that there were no major changes to the list which has a new sunset date of March 15, 2022.
