When taking a look at this year's spring wheat conditions, USDA meteorologist, Brad Rippey says much of the news nationally is good.

"The news is mostly good, especially compared to last year's drought-effected crops. 70-percent of the crops rated good to excellent 4-percent very poor or poor."

How does that compare to last year?

"Looking at a year ago we were just looking into a very serious drought," Rippey said. "55% of the crop was rated good to excellent, and eleven-percent rated very poor to poor."

Spring wheat planting is nearly complete.  As of June 3rd, 97% of spring wheat is in the ground, showing big gains over the past couple of days.  Meanwhile, emergence is at 81%, just one point behind the 5-year average.
