Meteorologist Brad Rippey said when it comes to the Spring Wheat crop, the USDA continues to report a record slow planting pace. As of Sunday June 5th, only 82% of the crop has been planted; the five year average is 97%. Some locations, especially in the upper Midwest are well off those numbers. Growers in Minnesota have only planted 65% of the crop, typically growers there would have 98% of the crop done by this time of year.

Meanwhile, winter wheat growers have begun harvesting their crop and Rippey said this 1st look at harvest,"[is] showing 5% of the acreage has been cut; 5 year average is 6%."

Some of it might not be worth cutting nationally, as far as condition of the crop.

"Where 30% good to excellent, a one point improvement from last week. Steady at 40% very poor to poor."

With winter wheat in Texas, 82% of it rated poor to very poor.
