Senate Ag Chair John Boozman renewed his commitment to more farm aid during a committee hearing last week.  Boozman said USDA’s earlier $12 billion in farm aid was a big help, but it’s not enough.

“I think we all realize that this is still not enough to stop the bleeding in farm country,” he said.

Growers Face Additional Challenges

Boozman and top Ag appropriator John Hoeven, met earlier with House Ag Chair GT Thompson on $15 billion in possible new aid.

“I remain committed to advancing the farm assistance package that Senator Hoeven and I proposed in January," Boozman said.  "Many additional challenges have arisen to demonstrate the urgency to provide our producers, including our specialty crop producers, with more support."

President Trump Supports The Idea

USDA Secretary Rollins said President Trump backed more aid during a farm event in Wisconsin.

“He said at the event on Friday that he wanted to do more," Rollins said.  "And so, I think we can work arm in arm and hand in hand and across, hopefully, both sides of the aisle and get to another point where that is possible and feasible for our farmers.”
