Seminar Looks at Climate Change Impact on Water

A seminar hosted by WSU, OSU and others will focus on the impacts that climate change will have on water availability, quality and how the ag community can respond.

WSU Outreach Coordinator Liz Whitefield said it’s critical to get this information in the hands of ag producers, consultants and others in the industry.

“We have predictions that there’s not going to be as much water in the eastern parts of our states as there is now with declines in the snowpack and we’re going to be seeing a variability in precipitation.”

Whitefield said farmers are very good about being adaptable to changing conditions between droughts and cold and many of the other natural impacts they can face.

Whitefield noted they applied for a grant to hold the workshop during the drought of 2015.

“The whole overall theme is that we all share this resource and with water becoming an issue in the future in the Pacific Northwest, the idea is to get folks together to talk about this.”

The event runs January 25^th and 26^th at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson along the Columbia River.
