Derek Sandison, Director of the WSDA said the Ag economy in Washington is very strong and in good shape.  He told the Washington Ag Network many commodities, such as apples, hops and other point to the state’s success.  But, he noted the growth and expansion west of the Cascades to showcase the diversity and overall strength of the Evergreen state's Ag economy.

 

“North Puget Sound we’re seeing some interesting growth in the agricultural industry particularly in Skagit County and Whatcom County.  And these are smaller but a very important parts of the agriculture economy, and the growth and the market connections that are being made in that area are very promising for us.”

 

Some of the strongest ag sectors in Northwest Washington include dairy, horticulture, as well as raspberries and blueberries.
