Sandison To Remain Head Of WSDA
Wednesday, Washington State Department of Agriculture Director Derek Sandison was confirmed by the Senate to continue leading WSDA. Since Sandison took the position, WSDA has expanded support for local food systems, worked on strengthening plant and animal health programs and focused on enhancing food safety measures. The WSDA added this week with Sandison in the Director position, the Department has increased resources for farmers and agricultural businesses across the state.
"I am honored to continue leading WSDA and serving Washington’s agriculture community. The hard work and dedication of our farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers make our state’s food system strong. I look forward to continuing our shared efforts to support and grow this vital industry."
Sandison has served as head of the WSDA since June 2015. Prior to his role at WSDA, he served as the director of the state Department of Ecology's Office of Columbia River, where he oversaw numerous water supply development projects important to farmers and ranchers. He was also a principal architect of the Yakima River Basin Integrated Water Resource Management Plan and has played a key role in the Odessa Ground Water Replacement Project.
