Roza Off Season Work “Very Aggressive”

Now that we’ve moved into the colder days of November, many irrigation districts have moved their attention to maintenance and improvements.  Scott Revell, Roza Irrigation District Manager, said they have a very aggressive off season agenda.  He told the Washington Ag Network they are installing roughly 12 miles of pipe district wide.  Roza he said has made similar efforts on an annual basis since 1983.

Revell said the district recently had several concrete joints lined to reduce the amount of water lost.  And he said more work will take place before the start of the 2018 season.

“We’re adding some gravel packed filtration systems.  We’ve got a couple of those up now, and we’re retrofitting them so they are easier to blow out.  Our farmers really like them, the water, the materials in the water doesn’t clog up their filters as much, so with the shift to drip irrigation cleanliness of the water is becoming more important.”

In addition, the district plans to install fabric liner in the Terrace Highest area.  This is on top of ongoing maintenance, such as cleaning out the canals and making patch repairs district wide.
