Republicans continue to praise the House version on the Farm Bill prior to the Conference Committee next month.  On Friday, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise said American farmers are the backbone of our country, feeding people around the nation and the world.

“We need to make sure that with a good farm bill that we’ve moved out of the House, that we’re able to continue allowing our farmers to produce so many great products and feed the world, be the bread basket of the world.”

Scalise added the House proposal removes a lot of the red tape farmers face.  He noted that the House Farm Bill proposal will help millions outside of the farming industry.

“We help people get back to work. As we’ve seen over the last few years, there’s been a dramatic increase in the number of people on SNAP. While our economy has now continued to grow, we’ve seen a ballooning over a 100% increase of people from 17 million people on SNAP to now over 40 million people.”

Scalise added it’s important to help people transition from food stamps to the millions of available jobs, so those people can become a part of the American Dream
