A great winter for agriculture and the rising demand for hops has a positive outlook for the 2017 season according to National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Lance Honig.

“Fantastic year for hops, just in terms of acreage. Looking at the number of acres strung this year is a record high number of acres again this year, following last year’s record high.”

More specifically, nationwide they’re expecting a six percent bump in hop plantings in 2017 when compared to 2016 to more than 51,000 acres.

The biggest region in the country is right here in the Northwest and Honig said there are high expectations, “In fact this year, in the three states Washington, Oregon and Idaho, all three states looking at record high acres strung for harvest this season.”

Honig added that the cold and wet winter means adequate water supplies and has kept pest and disease pressure at normal levels.
