For a host of states across the country, including Idaho, July is beef month. A time set aside to promote the protein, and in many cases highlight what the cattle industry does for the local or statewide economy.  Chelsea Hajny, Executive Vice President of the Washington Cattlemen’s Association said the recognition is nice, but the aim of the industry is to have a steady supply of cattle year-round.

“And so do we amp up or change what we're doing for July? No," she said.  "But it's important that we all have cattle ready to go and be in any part of the production cycle at any given time.”

Beef Is Much More Than A Summertime Food

Hajny pointed out that beef demand is very high right now.

“And while the summer grilling months, that Memorial Day to Labor Day time span, are the the hot months, we've seen the demand for beef, you know, continue all the way through the holidays," Hajny said.  "People are doing prime ribs besides turkeys or instead of turkeys and hams, you know into spring for Easter.  So, it's our goal to provide beef, you know 12 months out of the year.”
