Farmer Prices Dipped In July

According to the USDA’s latest Ag Prices Index, farmers nationwide received less, price-wise, for their commodities in July.  Overall, growers received 4.1% less than the previous month, with declines in prices received both in the crop and livestock production indexes.

The almost 6% decrease in what crop producers received price-wise was the result of a 32% month-over-month reduction in the index for vegetable and melon growers, more than offsetting prices received in July by food, grain and oilseed producers as well as fruit and tree nut growers.

The livestock production price index, however, was lowered by 1.1% from the previous month as a 2.5% decrease in what meat animal producers received price-wise and a 3.8% decline in dairy grower prices received offset the 1.7% increase in prices received by poultry and egg producers.
