PNW Agie Launches Inaugural “Future Of Farming Scholarship”

To show its solidarity with FFA and 4-H groups around the Northwest, the PNW Agie, and the Washington Ag Network announce the launch of the Future of Farming Scholarship.  The $500 scholarship will be given to a high school senior at this year’s 3^rd Annual PNW Agie November 7^th and 8^th at the TRAC in Pasco.

“For the Agriculture Industry to thrive into the future, we need to have young people pursue a career in farming, ranching, agronomy, or animal husbandry, and we decided to put our money where our mouth is,” said Washington Ag Network Program Director Glenn Vaagen.

“It’s is very important to us at the Washington Ag Network to keep agricultural learning at the forefront for high school and college students, and what better way for us to do that then by supporting the FFA and 4-H with scholarships,” said PNW Agie Coordinator and Manager Shani Van Hoorelbeke.

The scholarship contest is open to current high school (or home-schooled) seniors receiving a high school diploma during the 2018-19 academic year.  Students will write a 500 word essay containing their plans to pursue a career in Agriculture after high school.  The scholarship is open to those looking to attend a two-year or four-year college, or trade school.  E-mail essays to the Washington Ag Network, at gvaagen@cherrycreekradio.com, by Monday November 5^th.  The winner will be announced at the final day of the PNW Agie.

The 3^rd Annual PNW Agie will be ideal for high school students interested in a career in agriculture.  In addition to this year’s scholarship, several area colleges will be in attendance, allowing students to learn more about different career options at great schools across the Inland Northwest, including Big Bend Community College, Blue Mountain Community College, Columbia Basin College and Yakima Valley Community College.

In addition to the focus on education, the 3^rd Annual PNW Agie will have guest speaker Johnny Georges from Shark Tank fame, the Washington state Farm Hall, featuring state senators Judy Warnick and Sharon Brown, drone demonstrations and pesticide credits.

“This year’s PNW Agie truly has something for everyone, regardless of age,” Vaagen added.
