There are some portions of the Northwest that feel they will never dry out.  But ask anyone who’s called the Northwest home for an extended period of time, hot dry weather is just around the corner.  And Michael Engelbrecht with Irrigation Specialists said now is the time to ensure your irrigation equipment is ready for the summer heat.  He told the Washington Ag Network one of the biggest transformations is in the world of wireless technology.  Engelbrecht said orchards are transitioning to Wi-Fi capabilities, which can not only save water, but save manpower.

“Instead of sending a guy ten miles out to have to turn a faucet on or off, we can now do that through telemetry.  And too, there’s been several innovations in filtering, so that’s a big one protecting those lines that are feeding those vines or trees with the best filtering.”

Engelbrecht added the winter of 2016-17 has been ‘Very unrealistic’, and to make needed improvement and upgrades now to ensure a great 2017 harvest.
