"President Trump has made good on his promise to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement," said Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue earlier this week, praising President Trump for reaching a trade deal with Mexico.

Perdue added the deal reached Monday is something very special for manufacturers and farmers from both nations.

"Specifically, it addresses agricultural biotechnology to keep up with 21st Century innovation, and mutually pledges to work together with Mexico to reduce trade-distorting policies, increase transparency, and ensure non-discriminatory treatment in the grading of our agricultural products."

Perdue added for American farmers, the deal locks in critical access to Mexican markets.

"We now hope that Canada will see the need to settle all the outstanding issues between our two nations as well and restore us to a true North American Free Trade Agreement."
