NAFTA re-negotiations are in an official break for a month or so, but there's work being done behind the scenes.  Earlier this week, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue was asked his opinion on how things are going with NAFTA.

 

"I'm more hopeful than I have been and I think we're seeing more movement on Mexico's side than we do Canada. I believe, frankly, that we'll get a better from both of them."

 

And it may not take as long as some people believe.

 

"We've got the Mexican elections coming up...we've got one more round here, which I believe will be. In my opinion, it will be extended to, I think again, once we get the Mexican politics out of the way.  I think we'll have a deal before the end of the year."

 

Perdue is hopeful for a deal that continues to benefit U-S farmers and agri-business.
