Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue was in Iowa early this week, a state impacted by recent heavy flooding, flooding that may prevent farmers from planting this year.  What can be done to help?  Perdue said some relief can come via 2018 Farm Bill programs.

“The Farm Bill provides a safety net for certain things like equip and others and emergency conservation program for some of the flood damage.”

But Perdue acknowledged that in the structure and language of this or any Farm Bill, “some of this devastation, this farm bill, and the safety net of the farm bill, doesn't contemplate total devastation, and that's what's happened in some of these areas.”

Which is why the secretary and others say a disaster bill from congress and signed by the President is needed for Ag producers.  And not just recent victims of flooding, but also those that have suffered over the past year from wildfires, droughts, tornado and more.
