FCC Chairman Ajit Pai was in Wisconsin earlier this week, and one the topics he discussed focused on advancing is the expansion of broadband service to all of rural America.  Pai said people often don’t think of agriculture and broadband service in the same sentence, but he says broadband is an integral part of agriculture.  He said for applications and GPS to work properly, farms, and farmers need to be propyl connected.

“It’s incredible how sophisticated these farms are, but it all increasing depends on technology and so, from an FCC perspective, we want to make sure these networks, both wireless and wirelined are just ubiquitous, so that any farmer anywhere can do what he/she does best which is produce the food that goes on Americans’ tables.”

Pai added he not only wants to make rural broadband available to everyone, but also affordable by working to have universal service fees be used for broadband service like it has been used in the past for land line phone service.
