Oregon Makes Case Against Tariffs
Earlier this week, Oregon presented its case against President Trump’s tariffs, to the U.S. Court of International Trade. Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield was in New York, arguing against the Trump Administration’s sweeping tariffs. He believes the President is misusing the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
“An act that no President in the history of our country has ever used to set tariffs,” Rayfield said.
It’s one of several arguments Oregon and 11 other states presented to the Court on Wednesday. Administration lawyers argued the President’s powers should not be questioned by the courts.
“Obviously we were arguing that courts have a place, and should be reviewing President Trump’s decisions- this President and future Presidents. It is the proper place to review this, especially when it’s going to impact all of us so greatly.”
Rayfield asked for the court to impose a preliminary injunction on the tariffs, he said expects a decision “soon”.
