Oregon Legislation Looks At Increasing Ag Education Funding

Legislation introduced in the Oregon House of Representatives last week would increase the amount of money invested in FFA programs statewide.  The proposal, introduced by Republican Greg Barreto and Democrat Susan McLain would allocate over $1.4 million for Ag education.  Specifically, the funds will allow more students to attend FFA competitions, leadership courses, statewide training programs and much more.  The legislation would call on the Oregon Department of Education to work with students to ensue FFA experiences and education can be applied beyond high school.

The bipartisan bill would also set aside $600,000 in grant money to fund contract for Ag science and technology teachers.  The proposal is scheduled to have a work session Monday in Salem.  Click Here to read the bill in its entirety.
