The Oregon Food Bank is working with the agriculture community to help feed those who are needy or food insecure.

Katie Pearmine said Oregon has remained one of the hungriest states.

“In fact, Oregon is one of the only states where food insecurity has gotten worse. That, we’re finding, is because of pressures of housing and other costs, and food is the only negotiable item on your budget.”

The most at-risk are children, seniors and those with difficult medical situations.

That is where the agricultural community has stepped in particularly, Pearmine explained, as the Oregon Food Bank looks to fill it shelves with nutritious foods.

“Not every food bank in the country thinks this way. So you will still hear some folks are still moving soda and other snack foods. We are just prioritizing some other foods. Being blessed in this region, we have all of these foods and partnerships with everyone in the industry.”

Pearmine said she is constantly moved by the generosity of the agriculture industry as they both work to end food insecurity.
