Oregon Fires Smaller In 2025
Thanks to cooler and wetter weather across the region, Oregon’s wildfire season has officially come to an end. Jessica Neujahr, with the Oregon Department of Forestry, said nearly 289,000 acres burned compared to nearly two-million acres last year.
"Compared to last year in acres, we did great. But, I would say in response we still had significantly more fires than we did last year which was surprising, but I'll chalk that all up to the success of our firefighters."
Lightning was a bigger problem this year, but, Neujahr said, they were ready.
“After it would pass, we would have our firefighters out there patrolling and looking for new fire starts. A lot of effort was put into making sure that this year was not like last year and I think that shows."
Neujahr added 94% of Oregon’s wildfires this year were kept below ten acres. She added coordinating wildland fire crews with firefighters from across the state assigned to protect buildings helped to significantly reduce damage.
