Rural health providers in Oregon will benefit this year from a $197 million federal grant.  Clare Pierce-Wrobel, with the Oregon Health Authority, said the first phase of awards will go to what she calls “shovel-ready” projects, with the second phase starting in 2028.

“In order to encourage regional collaboratives and other solutions that require some more time to develop, but that could have a greater impact long term, and could be sustainable beyond the five years.”

The money, she said, is from the newly authorized Rural Health Transformation Program.

“The minimum award amount that we were expecting was $100 million per year," Pierce-Wrobel said.  "So this was really a good news story for us, that we received double that amount.”

Grant recipients are those providers offering healthcare services outside of Oregon’s main metropolitan areas.
