Oregonians Encouraged To Ask Questions This Tax Season
Oregonians don’t want to leave money on the table when they file their income taxes, and you don’t want to miss a couple of key tax credits. For those that make under $68,000 a year, you’re advised to see if you can get the federal Earned Income Tax Credit.
"Families may be eligible for a maximum refund of as much as $8,000 on their federal return and a maximum of an Oregon Earned Income Credit of $966 on their state return," said Robin Maxey, with the Oregon Department of Revenue.
Maxey added you should also check for the federal Child Tax Credit and the Oregon Kids Credit. If you don't have a computer to file taxes, you can visit a Revenue Department field office where they have kiosks.
"It's set up for a free option for filing your federal taxes and then setup to use Direct File Oregon to file your Oregon state taxes," Maxey said.
The federal government canceled its free tax software, but Oregon Direct File continues. Oregon’s Department of Revenue Website also lists other free options.
