As negotiations continue on NAFTA, Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said that when it comes to dealing with unfair trade barriers, “All options are on the table.”

“We need to make other countries understand that we’re not going to stand for, any longer, unjustified trade barriers that cannot be supported by sound science reasoning.”

Perdue is taking a six-day trip to Europe where he will meet with ag ministers from other countries, and other leaders of the G7 Food and Agriculture Organization.

It isn’t the preferred option according to Perdue.

“It’s always better to solve differences, I believe, through negotiation and use litigation as a last resort, but litigation has to be a credible threat and we do need to dramatically increase our pressure on trading partners that are acting unfairly with unfair restrictions.”

Perdue said this applies to current trade deals, deals under negotiation, and any new deals that might come down the road.
