The stress of running a farm in a tough economy is taking its toll on growers and producers nationwide.

“This is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I’m thinking about the stress so many farmers and ranchers are carrying right now," said American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall.  "Farming can be rewarding, but uncertainty, rising costs, and isolation can take a toll on mental health.  That's why Farm Bureau is sharing the Farm State of Mind Checklist: Weathering the Storm. The checklist encourages six simple steps: nourish, move, unplug, pause, connect, and share.”

Duvall added, while it may feel odd, or even uncomfortable, "it’s OK to admit you're not OK".

“No one should have to weather the storm alone," Duvall said.  "Sometimes a simple conversation can make all the difference.  If you or someone you know is struggling, visit the Farm State of Mind website to learn more about the free resources available to farm families nationwide.”
