Diesel prices continue their pattern of holding unchanged, but that could change, following OPEC’s announcement last week they were cutting oil production.  The national average for a gallon of diesel up one cents in the past week to $2.36, Washington average held steady at $2.71 a gallon, while Oregon’s was unchanged at $2.53 a gallon.  GasBuddy.com’s Patrick DeHaan says oil prices are currently in a bit of a limbo right now, thanks to last week’s announcement by OPEC.

“OPEC has long had talk of cutting oil output on the table, but has had little action to back that up.  So, so, we’re at the stage now where OPEC said it would cut production, but we don’t have the numbers yet to show us the evidence that is happening.”

DeHaan notes while few consumers what oil and diesel prices to increase, we in the Northwest are paying less than this time last year.

“We’re seeing prices well below a year ago especially wen it comes to the price of diesel, but the gap has narrowed significantly, at least when it comes to diesel prices.  A year ago, about $2.76 [a gallon], today at about $2.71, so we’re not faring a whole lot better.”

Here are some of the lowest local diesel prices we could find across the Northwest:

  • $2.59 a gallon in the Tri Cities
  • $2.66 a gallon in Moses Lake
  • $2.59 a gallon in Quincy
  • $2.57 a gallon in Walla Walla
  • $2.66 a gallon in Wenatchee
