With harvest in full swing across the Northwest, motorists should prepare to see slow moving farm equipment on area highways, and even freeways.  Anne Marie Moss with the Oregon Farm Bureau said motorists need to remember regardless of how late they are running, farm equipment does not move at the typical flow of traffic.

“That equipment is designed to travel typically at speeds no faster than 25 mph.”

Farmers, before you take your equipment out on the roadway, remember state law requires that equipment has an orange tractor sign that is clearly visible.  Moss said there are other ways farmers can help out motorists.

“Marking the edge of tractors and machines with a reflective tape, that helps.  Turn off the rear spotlight when going on to the road.  Because from a distance, spotlights can be mistaken for headlights.  And avoid heavy traffic patterns.”
