October Red Meat Export Pace Above 2023 Levels
The latest U.S. red meat export numbers are out. U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Dan Halstrom, said October beef exports totaled 105,269 metric tons, up 1% year-over-year, while the value jumped 3% to $860.4 million.
“We continue to see Asia rebound," he said. "And you look at Korea, for example, 19,600 tons up about 5%. It was the largest month in Korea since March of this year. And China actually had a big month as well, at almost 17,000 tons, and it's the largest month since June of last year. So you overlay that with the continued momentum that we've been seeing in Latin America.”
Halstrom added U.S. beef producers are on a record pace for the year, and as he looks to the last two months of 2024, he’s expecting new records for both value and volume. From January through October, beef export value was 4% higher than 2023 at $8.68 billion, despite a 2% drop in volume.
