As we continue to look at the latest outlook numbers from Northwest Farm Credit Services, we turn our attention to the row crops.  NWFCS Vice President Karen Witt said onion prices remain well above prices one year agao, as fewer acres and a shorter growing season limited 2017 production.

 

“Northwest Farm Credit Services’ 12 month outlook suggests medium sized onion prices will remain moderate in the face of adequate supplies.  Jumbo onions are larger will continue to command a higher price and producers with a supply of larger sized onions will continue to be profitable.”

As far as potatoes are concerned, production last year dropped 6.6% across the Northwest, thanks to fewer acres as well as lower yields.

 

“Northwest Farm Credit Services’ 12 month outlook suggests grower returns will remain above the cost of production for the remainder of the 2017 marketing season, due to a limited supply of potatoes.”
