According to NASS, sheep and lambs inventory dipped 1% across the Northwest year-over-year.  

 

As of January 1st sheep and lambs inventory in Idaho was estimated at 235,000 head, unchanged from 2024.  Inventory of sheep and lambs in Oregon was 150,000 head, down 3% year-over year.  Washington, sheep and lambs inventory totaled 47,000 head, a 4% increase from January 2024.  Nationally, all sheep and lambs inventory was estimated at 5.05 million head as of January 1st, up slightly year-over-year.

When it comes to milk goat inventory:

  • Washington reported 8,200 head to start the year, unchanged from 2024
  • Idaho’s inventory totaled 6,800 head, up 5% year over year
  • Oregon’s population was estimated at 14,500 head, up 1% from last year.  

 

 

January 1st inventory of meat and other goats in Oregon was estimated at 26,000 head, unchanged from last year.  Nationally, January 1st meat and other goat inventory was estimated at 1.98 million head, up 1% from January 1st, 2024.  All goats and kids inventory in the United States on January 1st totaled 2.51 million head, up 1% from 2024's numbers.
