Pasture and rangeland conditions continue to worsen nationwide.  When it comes to the numbers nationwide as of Sunday, September 20th, USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey noted.

“Only 17% of the nation's rangeland and pastures rated in good to excellent condition," Rippey said.  "That is a two-point drop from last week. Very poor to poor ratings now up to 53% of that rangeland and pasture acreage up from 51% a week ago and compared to a year ago at this time, 34% good to excellent and 36% very poor to poor, which at the time did not seem ideal, but certainly better than this year at this time.”

NW Pastures Continue To Dry Out

According to NASS, 48% of Idaho’s pastures and rangelands are considered very poor to poor, the highest figure in the region.  Meanwhile Oregon’s number is 34%, while 31% of Washington's pastureland is considered very poor to poor.
