As the number of days without measurable precipitation continue to add up for the summer of 2017 in the Inland Northwest, we’re not done yet.

Mark Brusberg, Meteorologist with the USDA, said when they look at the longer term forecasts, it’s not promising.

“We’re looking at dry weather continuing for the foreseeable future in the Pacific Northwest. So with the exception of some local showers possibly contributed by the monsoon moisture from the south, there really doesn’t look like any widespread relief.”

There are also problems with subsoil conditions with 80 percent of Oregon in the short to very short categories.

With no relief in sight, Brusberg said the Northwest has one hope.

“They’re going to need a very wet winter to recharge some of these deep soils.”

Oregon also has 43 percent of pastures for the state rated in very poor to poor condition.
