Newhouse: State Lawmakers, Farmers, Make Great Case For Columbia Basin Project

Last week a delegation from the state of Washington, including Senator Mark Schoesler and Representative Mary Dye, and others, traveled to DC to meet with federal official to discuss the importance of completing the Columbia Basin Project.  Congressional representative Dan Newhouse attended those meetings, and said they were productive.

“We made a lot of headway in educating this new administration as to the opportunities there and, I’m excited about the opportunities that lay in front of us.”

Newhouse told the Washington Ag Network local farmers and lawmakers discussed with DC officials the growth in the agriculture community because of the federal investments that were made to develop the Columbia Basin.

“And [they] really explained the opportunities for completing the project, not only for agriculture but for addressing the urgent needs of the farms and and the local communities there who are seeing the levels of their ground water drop to critical levels.”

Newhouse added these meetings could not have come at a better time for Central Washington.  He said the Trump Administration is looking to the not so distant future for infrastructure projects that can quickly impact the American economy.  Newhouse said the completion of the Columbia Basin Project is one that is Shovel Ready.  But he was quick to note there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
