The U.S. and Canada wrapped up another series of NAFTA talks with no deal announced last week.  This comes after the United States and Mexico announced, in principle a trade deal.  One of the biggest issues remains the dairy market, something U.S. producers see as unfair protection and pricing in favor of Canadian producers.  In turn, Canada wants language that prevents the U.S. from terminating the deal at will.

Representative Dan Newhouse said while it may appear large differences remain, he is confident progress is being made, and a deal will be reached.

“We are both important to each other, the United States and Canada are close neighbors, and have a long history and tradition of economic partnership and the trade representative is optimistic that this will happen soon as well.”
