New Downtown Pasco Director Believes in the Market
The Downtown Pasco Development Authority, which oversees the Pasco Farmers Market, has hired Luke Hallowell as their new Executive Director.
Hallowell said the market is a key part of Pasco’s identity.
“I always had a passion for food and farming and we gleaned a lot as I spent a lot of time out in fields. I love our agricultural community and I think that Downtown Pasco should really be the heart of the farm and food culture. I think Pasco is a city with a proud agricultural heritage and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Hallowell had connections with market as he used to collect food from the vendors for Fields of Grace, a charity that rescues produce to feed those in need.
The Farmers Market can also help the general downtown area, and Hallowell said it can be a valuable asset for other businesses.
“A farmers market provides a low barrier to entry for farmers to be there and it brings a bunch of customers into your area that can then explore the surrounding retail outlets and some of the food outlets and other similar places, so I think it’s been the center of our revitalization efforts and I think it should continue to be.”
Hallowell hopes that he can start to work with the market to bring more value-added products and ideas.
