Last week, the National Association of Wheat Growers threw their support behind the Cultivating Revitalization by Expanding Market Development Program Act.  NAWG CEO Chandler Goule said the CREAATE Act is very important to wheat farmers locally and across the U.S.

“Slowly over a time period between now and 2023, doubles the funding for MAP and FMD of which we are strongly supportive”

The Act would increase funding for the Foreign Market Development Program, FMD from $34.5 million to $69 million annually.  MAP funding would increase from $200 to $400 million.  Goule told the Washington Ag Network this increased funding will also help American wheat producers go on the offensive to secure new markets, and expand existing ones.

“And other leading wheat producing countries are going out there to the Asian countries, to the Pacific Rim, they are going to other countries, and they are taking that market share away from U.S. producers and that’s why, if there ever really was a time that we need MPA and FMD programs, and definitely need the increase in funding, it is now.”

Goule notes since 50% of American wheat is exported, and between 85%-90% of Northwest wheat is shipped overseas, the CREAATE Act is pivotal for U.S. growers.  He added to show your support for the CREAATE Act, contact your representative and senators and express your interest in seeing the legislation pass.
