NASDA Applauds Education Emphasis on Food Safety Rules

At the annual meeting of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, NASDA, Dr. Scott Gottlieb with the Food and Drug Administration said the organization will emphasize education for the first year of the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act.

The goal is to give FDA more time to develop and complete training programs and be able to offer guidance to those who will be impacted.

NASDA President and Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture & Forestry Dr. Michael Strain said, “FDA is showing support of an important transition from the reactive programs that have existed in the past to the preventive programs of the future.”

The additional time implemented by FDA will also allow them to review water standards and testing methods.
