NAFTA Renegotiations Disappointing For Secretary Perdue

The fourth round of negotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement, NAFTA, is set for Wednesday, October 11^th and Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said he’s disappointed in the first three rounds.

“If you’ve ever watched a boxing match, they circle one another for a while. I think we’re done circling so we’re going to lay some things on the table in this next round.”

Issues like dairy and poultry concerns with Canada as well as timber.

Perdue said his message to negotiators is do no harm to what has been a good deal, for the most part, for ag producers in the U.S.

“We can’t help that U.S. agriculture is the most productive, just don’t use us as a weapon in trade negotiations.”

House Ag Committee Chairman Michael Conaway echoed Perdue’s disappointments and noted he hopes that negotiators enter the next round with a sense of urgency.
