Prices for milk and milk products are expected to be down in 2018 in comparison to 2017, that according to the USDA.

Outlook Board Chair Seth Meyer said there are a lot of factors.

“Slower growth in milk per cow and when we look out further, an expectation of a little bit lower growth in cow numbers based upon some changes in product prices.”

There are also concerns over demand of whey, cheese and other milk-based products.

Projected milk output is also down 400 million pounds compared to the original forecast from November.

USDA forecasts the all-milk price to be $17.05 per hundredweight, down 60 cents from 2017 and all milk products will be down in 2018.
