Washington’s dairy industry is part of a major trade trip of state industries to Mexico that is putting a heavy emphasis on ag exports.

Dairy Farmers of Washington CEO Scott Kinney said these trips are critical.

“What we’re going down to do is really emphasize the importance of this partnership and show them that we want to continue being partners. Promote Washington dairy of course, but also look for new opportunities to expand and make those export relationships even stronger and look for new opportunities to bring in different or new products.”

The trip will include visits to retailers, processors and looks at the Mexican consumer.

Kinney said for him, it’s about education.

“What I’m doing is taking this as an opportunity to learn, find out more about that market and see what opportunities are there. Some of our processors really have strong ties in Mexico and are doing a great job with those relationships and keeping those lines open. We think there’s opportunity to do more.”

The trip lasts through Friday when Governor Inslee will join the trip to promote Washington businesses.
