The original goal was to have a trade deal between the U.S. and China completed by the end of this month.  But, according to USDA's Ted McKinney, that date will need to be pushed back.

"I will tell you that I would not be concerned if you don't see a Mar-A-Lago type meeting by March 30th."

McKinney added the fact the date has been pushed back is actually a positive sign.

"I say that only because we need a little bit more time. We're making progress.  All of us, across all these chapters, but we're going to have to go a little past March the 30th to get this to where we can confidently say that both parties have a good package."

McKinney acknowledged the progress has been modest in ongoing talks, but he added it has not been contentious between the two nations.  He added that something new to the trade deal will be the language of how the deal will be enforced.
