March Washington Wine Month

March is Taste Washington Wine Month.  Heather Bradshaw with the Washington State Wine Commission said it’s a way for restaurants, wineries, hotels, retailers and others to offer special deals to raise excitement about the great wines Washington has to offer.

“The top five grape varieties really make up over 90% of the state’s varieties cabernet sauvignon, Syrah, merlot, chardonnay and Riesling make up the vast majority but, we do grow over 70 varieties, and we grow them very well, so it’s really vast in terms of the wines you’ll find here in the state.”

The month culminates with the Taste Washington event in Seattle.  Bradshaw says March is also a good time to encourage consumers to drink local.
