This time of year, you probably think of fresh fruit, iced tea, maybe ice cream, but most likely not maple syrup.

“We actually only produce estimates once the season for this crop and so much like we would do with corn if you wanted to get a final measure of what's produced, you do it after the season's over," said Lance Honig with NASS.  "And so we see the same thing happening with maple syrup.”

Despite Drop, Current Crop Still Large

Honig breaks down the June crop production report for this year’s maple syrup crop

“We reported that the ‘25 maple syrup crop totaled 5.77 million gallons. That was down 1.5% from previous seasons production," Honig said.  "In fact, production was down a bit in our three largest producing states, Vermont, New York, and Maine.”

While those numbers are lower, Honig says the 2025 crop is still a very large crop.  In fact this year’s maple syrup numbers only trail 2024 and 2022, meaning this year is shaping up to be the 3rd largest on record.
